Today a TV star visited Scoil Na Mainistreach. Dale Treadwell who has appeared on many childrens programmes such as Kazoo, The Why Guy, Dustins Daily News, News2day and many more came to give us a talk about biodiversity. As part of his visit he looked at our Bug Hotel. He was very impressed. He gave us a few tips on how to make it better which we will do over the next few weeks. One of his tips was to put a roof on the hotel made from moss, slabs or astro turf material.
He also mentioned the possibility of building an extension to the hotel to include Hedgehogs! This is something we are very excited about and look forward to building it!
So impressed was Dale with the work done on the Bug Hotel that he presented me with a copy of Harry The Hedgehog a book which Dale wrote himself. The book tells the story of a lonely Hedgehog wanting to have a friend after the long winter. I would recommend this story to parents who would like to read it to their children at night. At the of the book Dale gives instructions on how to build a Hedgehog Hotel.
